Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment can take on many forms, including unwelcome sexual
advances, requests for sexual favors, and verbal or physical conduct
of a sexual nature that affects a person’s employment, unreasonably
interferes with their work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile
or offensive work environment. Sexual harassment is a form of sex
discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
and the Washington Law Against Discrimination, RCW 49.60.
Many employees do not know that the harasser does not have to be the
opposite sex of the victim of the harassment; the harasser can be the
victim's supervisor, an agent of the employer, a supervisor in another
area, a co-worker, or even a non-employee; the victim does not have to
be the person harassed, but can be anyone affected by the conduct and
sexual harassment is illegal even without a showing of economic injury
or wrongful discharge.
